Colourgen has announced the immediate UK availability of the new Designer 18 wide format colour scanner from Vidar. This latest addition to Vidar's range is an 18" by 24" flatbed scanner, designed to scan all types of originals, including rare and valuable documents.

Scanning non-standard items, such as books, delicate originals that require special handling and fine art originals has been a significant challenge for many users. The Vidar Designer 18 answers this challenge with an affordable solution that delivers the quality, colour reproduction and reliability necessary to achieve a high quality digital image, says Colourgen.

Melanie Enser, Colourgen's Product Marketing Manager, comments, "The Designer 18 is a product that many of our customers have been waiting for. It is perfectly suited for GIS, photographic and graphic arts professionals in both the print-for-pay and in-house markets because it offers ease of use coupled with a high level of precision and accuracy. The product is a welcome addition to our range and adds a further dimension to Colourgen's capabilities to provide the industry's most complete portfolio of large format digital printing solutions."

The Designer 18 is a flatbed scanner that allows delicate or oversized documents to be placed on the platen glass, avoiding potential damage. It captures 48-bit colour data for maximum colour recognition, outputting the best 24 bits to ensure true colour fidelity. The Designer 18 contains advanced technology for colour and monochrome image enhancement, providing vivid and clean results from even difficult originals. All processing is embedded in the scanner's hardware, enabling the user to perform powerful image capture without delays, and at speeds that rival that of standard software processing.

Melanie Enser continues, "The Designer 18 scanner delivers excellent colour (3" per second) and monochrome (10" per second) scanning speeds, at an affordable price point for its class. It enables digital reproductions with the photo-realistic colour, high quality greyscale and sharp black and white images that match the original. The system is also designed for easy maintenance and part replacement, reducing the need for on-site service calls."

The Vidar Designer 18 Wide Format Colour Scanner is available immediately from authorised Colourgen resellers. Recommended retail price is £6,250 plus VAT.
