PhotoBox and Photoways Merge To Form Europe's Biggest Online Photo Service

PhotoBox, the United Kingdom's number one destination for online photo sharing, storing and printing, has announced its merger with Photoways, the European pioneer and leader of the photographic online printing market. The merger of the French and British market leaders in this space creates Photoways Group - Europe's biggest online photo service with sales of over 0 million in 2006.

The new group will continue to operate state-of-the-art laboratories in Paris and London with a combined capacity of over 1 million prints per day. Photoways Group, incorporating Photoways, PhotoBox and Pixdiscount is backed by world-leading venture capital companies, Index Ventures and Highland Capital Partners. As part of the merger, Michel de Guilhermier has been appointed as CEO, whilst Pierre Chappaz, the founder of Kelkoo and ex-President of Yahoo Europe has been appointed as Chairman.

Existing PhotoBox customers will continue to develop their photos and use PhotoBox services from the existing sites. Established in 2000, PhotoBox was the first online digital photographic company in the UK and Ireland and is the market leader in the UK according to independent researcher Understanding and Solutions.

Photoways Group UK will operate from the London headquarters of PhotoBox. Company founders, Mark Chapman and Graham Hobson will become UK Managing Director and Group Chief Technical Officer respectively. Mark Chapman will also join the group Board of Directors.
